Utilities

Daily life rules

Traffic Japan follows the rule of traffic running on the left-hand side . People walk on the right side of the road and cars drive on the left. Always cross the street at a pedestrian crossing.
Bicycles Ride your bicycle on the left side of the road. Having two adults on a bike or riding without lights at night is not permitted. As with motor vehicles, riding under the influence of alcohol is prohibited.
Trash disposal Trash disposal procedures vary depending on where you live. In particular, if you live in an apartment or condominium, the times, days and places where you are allowed to put out garbage are determined by the type and size of the garbage, so confirm the schedule in advance.
Smoking Smoke cigarettes only in designated smoking areas. In Tokyo, smoking indoors in facilities used by two or more people is generally prohibited, and in some places smoking while walking or smoking on the street is also punishable.
