When should I decide where to live?
Consult with the school you are enrolling in first. Some schools can arrange student dormitories, student housing and the like, or introduce you to real estate agents who can help you find an apartment close to the school.
If you want to take your time to search for a place after you arrive in Japan, you can use a hotel or weekly apartment at first.
